I have worked as a professional photographer in British Columbia for more than forty years. Trained in both photography and archaeology, my work contains a strong cultural theme. Working through my company, Image West Photography, with my partner Vance Hanna, I completed assignments documenting commercial fishing, logging, mining, ranching and rural life in small communities. My images have appeared in numerous books, journals, and magazines. I received the Roderic Haig-Brown BC Book Prize for The Fraser River.
Published works include:
The Adams River: Exploring the Mystery of the Adams River Sockeye (with Mark Hume);Nemiah: The Unconquered Country (with Terry Glavin);
Ranchland: British Columbia’s Cattle Country (with Diana French);
Yoga Journeys: Stories from the Mat (with Carol Blacklaws and Kataria Stofikova);
In the Footsteps of Alexander Mackenzie: Archaeology and the Nuxalk-Carrier Grease Trail.
The Fraser: River of Life and Legend (with Carol Blacklaws).
Over the past decade, I left behind the pursuit of classic landscape and have focused on portraiture, the human figure, and the world of encaustics. The incorporation of a wax medium into the imagery allows me to explore new ways to enrich colour, depth and texture – bringing a tactile, luminous quality to the photograph.
