Established in 2000, Artique is Powell River’s own artist collective gallery.

We have room for 30 local working artists and artisans who collectively display our work and run the gallery together. We have a wide selection of local original art, fine craft, handmade art cards and gift ideas for every taste and budget, directly to you from the artists themselves.

A brief history of Artique

In 2000 Caroline Jobe, Susan and Dale Forsberg hatched an idea for a co-op of artists to have a storefront on Marine Ave. It was a new idea, artists collectively paying the rent and in turn being able to receive all the proceeds from their sales. Through Dale’s connections they were able to secure a prime retail space on Marine Avenue (now the Nutcracker) next to Paperworks. Initially we were 15 artists, mostly painters, with a few ceramicists and one fibre artist. We began with only being open during the tourist and holiday season. It was a humble beginning, but we saw the potential of what we could grow the cooperative gallery to be one day.

In 2002 we moved to the Townsite neighbourhood, into the historic Bank of Montreal building. Under the guidance of Nancy Davis, a former exhibition technician at the Royal British Columbia Museum, we quickly got the space together and gathered approximately 20 artists to join. We were there for one year open full time with some success, but decided we would like to return to Marine Avenue.

So in 2003 Caroline Jobe, again set about to find our third location. She found us a historic shop on Marine Ave to rent, just down the street from our original location. It was there that we became ARTIQUE and have since gained a reputation as a great gallery gift shop in Powell River!

In 2018, it was again time for us to relocate. Caroline found our fourth and current space on Alberni Street, just around the corner from our previous spot. Our collective of artists all pulled together to turn the former retail space into a gallery, even roping in some of our spouses to help make it happen.

And here we are today – 6820 Alberni Street. Come visit us! Join Artique and be part of the story moving forward.
