“My heels left dark calligraphy
across the marble floor.
It’s a message for the future that
the world cannot ignore.”

‘poetry in motion’ #832 v:2

I combine poetry with painting because I want people to slow down when they’re looking at a painting. The art illuminates the poem, the poem narrates the art.

I wrote a book with one poem, called ‘nosferatu – the vampire’s circus’, about a world where everyone was a vampire, like it was normal to be strange. I do like the nightmare-like quality too.

Sometimes the poetry comes first, sometimes the image. Myth, fairy tales and dreams underlie my work. Beauty is the next most important thing.

Even when you speak, you sing‘. My basic thought about poetry is that speech itself is music. Words have a cadence and rhythm, each syllable is a musical note. Otherwise, we’d all sound like 1970’s voice synthesizers.

Poetry is like a dream, in that it follows its own logic. Poems don’t have to be literally true, as long as they’re emotionally true. ~
