Born in New Brunswick, Caroline Brown learned the love of handiwork from her maternal grandmother and later, from her mother. Now, living on the opposite Canadian coast and working with elegant, funky, and unique yarns, wool and fabrics, Caroline has channeled her love of texture and colour into wearable art, primarily scarves and wraps. Although she is still knitting with gorgeous yarns: silk, cashmere, fine merino wool, bamboo…from a variety of countries: Italy, Nepal, Germany, Sweden, Chile, Argentina, Turkey…., her passion has shifted to include felting using wool, silk and various other fabrics and embellishments. Most of her scarves and wraps incorporate more than one textile and seldom are two scarves alike.
Caroline has participated in juried Art Shows and Christmas Fairs in many Calgary communities, as well as in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan; and Nanton, Springbank and Airdrie, Alberta. For four years, Texada Island’s Holtenwood Gallery carried her scarves. More recently, her work has been in Peace Gallery North, Fort Saint John, BC and Fibreworks Gallery, Madeira Park, BC. She joined Artique in 2007.
